Drought characterization based on multi-scaler SPEI at Barnala district of Punjab, India

Drought varies in terms of its occurrence, duration, intensity, and extent on a spatiotemporal scale is carried by the relative absence rainfall. The Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) based precipitation temperature data from 1985 to 2020 at Barnala meteorological station for southwestern Punjab, India. SPEI can monitor assess drought characteristics different time scales. findings analysis showed that severity, intensity were 3 months, -6.24 -3.52 -2.08 -1.77 SPEI-1; 6 -9.13 -9.01 -1.52 -1.50 SPEI-3; 7 -14.52 -8.63 -2.07 -1.23 SPEI-6; 11 -21.96 -2.00 SPEI- 9; -23.02 -13.19, -2.09 -1.20 SPEI-12; 18 months -26.14 -1.45 SPEI-24 respectively. Similarly, wet severity 4 5.87 1.47 SPEI-1, 13.64 1.95 SPEI-3, 10 14.86 1.49 SPEI-6, 12 16.37 1.36 SPEI-9, 23.77 17.21 1.43 1.98 SPEI-12, 24 33.31and 1.39 Overall results revealed moderate conditions during shorter longer
